Early Life
On October 9, 1986, Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, known as Phyno, was born. Despite being from Anambra State, he was born and raised in Enugu State. His high school classmate Emeka gave him the nickname “Phyno,” a play on the word “phenomenal”, which served as his stage name.
Phyno became interested in music production while he was in secondary school. When asked if he wanted to be a doctor, he said he initially wanted to be a pilot but ended up studying public Management.
He attended the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu after finishing primary and secondary school, where he earned an OND in public administration. He learnt how to play the piano and drums during high school. He also learned how to create his rendition of every recording he had.

Music Career
Phyno became interested in music production while he was in secondary school. Although he was first informed he could become a doctor instead of a pilot, he decided to pursue a career in music. Phyno concentrated all of his attention on music throughout high school, picking up the drums and the piano. He also developed the ability to remix every song he heard.
Starting in 2003, Phyno worked as a record producer for prominent Nigerian musicians, including Illbliss, P-Square, Flavour, Mr Raw, Bracket, J Martins, Timaya, Ruggedman, and others. He moved to Lagos in 2007 to further his professional career in the entertainment sector. Mr Raw is among the few people Phyno told Ifeoma Onoye he looked up to. In response to his best friend Illbliss’ advice, Phyno began rapping professionally and was subsequently signed to the Sputnet Records Label.
Phyno founded his record company, Penthauz Entertainment, in 2010 and released his debut studio album, “No Guts No Glory.” Phyno has received numerous honours and accolades from both Nigeria and Nigeria.
He and Olamide shared the 2012 Nigeria Entertainment Award for Best Collabo of the Year and the Headies Award for Best Rap Single.
The Penthauze Group Phyno is the founder and CEO of the Nigerian record company Penthauze Music. He first began his career with Sputnet Records and then started Penthauze. The label started operating in 2008 and has already signed several musicians.
Phyno started work on his first studio album, No Guts No Glory. Stormrex, Efa, P-Square,Omawumi, Olamide, Timaya, Flavour N’abania, Mr Raw, MI, Ice Prince, and Runtown all made guest appearances on the album in 2012 and it was a a hit. It was named Best Collabo in both the 2012 The Headies Awards and the 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. The music video for “Ghost Mode” was released on December 7, 2012. Clarence Peters directed and shot the video in Lagos. For his smash single “Ghost Mode,” which featured Olamide, he earned the Best Collabo award at the Headies Awards and Best Rap Artiste of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards in 2013.
The third song from the album, “Parcel,” was made available on October 11, 2013. The original title of the piece was “Parcel (a BIG Nwa)”. Clarence Peters directed the “Parcel” music video, which debuted on February 19, 2014. On March 4, 2014, “O Set,” the fourth single from the album, was made available. The following year, with over 30,000 attendees and a star-studded lineup that included P-Square, Burnaboy, Lil-kesh, Onyeka Owenu, Olamide, Mr Eazi, M.I, Kcee, Zoro, Patoranking, Phyno shifted the location of Phynofest back to the city where he began his music career.
In 2016, Phyno released The Playmaker, his sophomore album, via Penthauze Records. P-Square, MI Abaga, Burna Boy, 2Baba, Flavour, Decarlo, Mr Eazi, Onyeka Onwenu, Olamide, Zoro, and Tidinz made guest appearances. Major Bangz, Tunex, Christ String, Kezyklef, Benjamz, MasterKraft, Del’B, and T-Spize were the album’s producers.
